Indian electric two-wheeler maker Ola Electric has launched four new electric scooters—the S1 X, S1 X+, S1 Pro, and S1 Pro+—featuring the company’s latest ‘Gen 3’ technology platform. The new models promise significant advancements in performance, including a range of up to 320 km on a single charge, setting a new standard for electric scooters in India.

The shift to the Gen 3 platform marks a major change for Ola Electric, with a transition from a hub-mounted motor to a more efficient mid-drive motor. This new motor integrates the motor control unit (MCU), reducing weight and energy consumption. The upgraded motor offers a 4% improvement in energy efficiency and a fivefold increase in reliability. Moreover, the switch to a chain drive instead of the previous belt drive results in a 10% improvement in acceleration and a twofold increase in durability, all while maintaining the same noise levels as the belt.

Ola Electric also introduced several key innovations with the Gen 3 platform, including brake-by-wire technology with a patented sensor that enhances energy recovery by 15% and doubles brake pad life. The new platform integrates a single electronics board instead of three, improving reliability and reducing costs while supporting more features through a powerful chip.

The S1 X and S1 X+ models come with 7 kW and 11 kW motors, respectively, offering top speeds of 123 kph and 125 kph, with ranges of up to 242 km. Meanwhile, the S1 Pro and S1 Pro+ offer more powerful motors—11 kW and 13 kW—with ranges extending to 320 km on the Pro+ model. Both feature a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and the latest version of MoveOS 5, providing a suite of safety and connectivity features such as dual-channel ABS and an emergency SOS function.

Ola Electric’s new offerings aim to strengthen its position in India’s fast-growing EV market. In 2024, the company accounted for 21% of India’s annual EV sales, leading the charge in the electric two-wheeler category with a 35% market share. As the company expands its product lineup and retail network, it is addressing earlier quality concerns by rolling out the Gen 3 models and enhancing its service infrastructure across the country. Deliveries of the new electric scooters will begin in mid-February, with older Gen 2 models still available in parallel.
