Octopus Electric Vehicles (Octopus EV) has appointed Gurjeet Grewal as its permanent Chief Executive Officer after a year of record expansion, innovation, and international growth under his interim leadership. The announcement follows significant milestones for the UK-based electric vehicle leasing company, including a nearly 50% increase in fleet size, £1.5 billion in funding from institutional investors, and a new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) partnership with BYD.
Grewal, who joined Octopus EV in 2018 as one of its founding employees, has been instrumental in scaling the company from a startup to one of the UK’s leading EV leasing providers.

Previously serving as Director of Operations and Chief Operating Officer, he became interim CEO in January 2025. Under his direction, the company’s fleet expanded from 27,000 to over 40,000 vehicles, reinforcing its leadership in the EV leasing and salary sacrifice market.
This year, Octopus EV also advanced its innovation strategy through a partnership with Chinese automaker BYD to launch a vehicle-to-grid solution that integrates a car, charger, and unlimited charging in one monthly plan. The collaboration aims to improve grid stability and provide drivers with cost predictability and energy independence. At the same time, the company expanded into Germany, marking its first international venture as part of its European growth strategy.
