Octopus Energy said it will officially launch its electric vehicle business, Octopus Electric Vehicles, in Germany in early 2026, marking its first expansion into continental Europe.

The company, which has more than 800,000 energy customers in Germany, said drivers will be able to access an all-in-one package that includes an electric car, home charger, its Octopus Electroverse roaming network, and the “Intelligent Octopus” smart tariff. The tariff allows automatic charging when energy is cheapest and cleanest, saving drivers up to €450 annually compared with standard tariffs, according to the company.

“Germany is a powerhouse in the automotive industry, and the home of some of our most-loved EV brands. With shared values around great technology and reliable, trusted service, we wanted our European debut to be in Germany,” said Fiona Howarth, Founder and Director of Octopus Electric Vehicles. “Our offer takes the stress out of going electric – we make it simple, affordable, and green.”

Since its launch in 2018, Octopus EV has grown to more than 35,000 UK customers, and the firm is also working on vehicle-to-grid technology to allow cars to supply electricity back to the grid at peak times. Octopus said similar innovations will be introduced in Germany, in partnership with EV makers including China’s BYD.
