Nio has unveiled an updated version of its Firefly compact electric vehicle, adding new features and performance improvements without raising prices, as the brand looks to strengthen its appeal among urban commuters.
The Firefly, positioned as a boutique compact EV under Nio, is now priced from 119,800 yuan ($17,470) for the base version with battery included. Customers opting for the company’s battery-as-a-service (BaaS) programme can purchase the vehicle from 79,800 yuan, with a monthly battery rental fee of 399 yuan.
A higher-spec variant starts at 125,800 yuan for full ownership, or 85,800 yuan under the BaaS model.
The updated model introduces a new “Maillard” exterior colour option alongside a redesigned two-tone lower bumper. Inside, the vehicle receives additional smart features, including a blue indicator light designed to improve visibility during assisted driving scenarios.
Nio has also added a tyre pressure monitoring system and enhanced rearview mirror functionality, including automatic tilt-down and memory settings—features the company said were widely requested by existing users.
Performance has been upgraded, with peak motor output increased from 105 kW to 120 kW, reducing the 0–100 km/h acceleration time to 7.9 seconds. Existing Firefly owners will also receive the performance boost via an over-the-air software update.
Alongside the vehicle refresh, Nio is rolling out its Aster 1.4.0 software update, which introduces a more personalised in-car experience and expanded entertainment features. The system now supports screen mirroring for Nintendo Switch devices, enabling integration between the vehicle’s infotainment system and external gaming hardware.
Driver assistance functions have also been expanded. A new “tracking reverse” feature allows the vehicle to retrace its path over distances of up to 100 metres, while a false acceleration suppression system has been added to reduce risks associated with unintended pedal input.
