Nio recorded a sharp increase in battery swap services during the Chinese New Year holiday, driven by peak travel demand, the company said in a report from its energy unit, Nio Power. On February 3, near the end of the holiday period, Nio completed a record 136,720 battery swaps in a single day. This surpassed the previous peak of 119,848 swaps recorded on January 25, just before the holiday began.
Between January 22 and February 5, Nio provided a total of 1,716,746 battery swaps, marking a 44% increase compared to the previous year. During this period, the company recorded over 100,000 swaps per day for 12 consecutive days. Nio users collectively traveled more than 624 million kilometers, with 1,888 customers driving over 5,000 kilometers each and 78,204 users covering more than 500 kilometers in a single day. The most frequent battery swap user recorded 84 swaps during the holiday.

Battery swaps remained the preferred charging method for Nio users, with 83.2% of the energy added on highways coming from swap stations. Between January 22 and February 5, Nio’s highway swap stations provided 446,259 battery swaps, with the busiest locations recording up to 183 swaps per day. To accommodate the surge in demand, the company temporarily deployed 538 additional battery packs at key highway locations. The average time required for users to complete a swap was reduced to 9 minutes and 16 seconds, an 11.89% improvement from the previous year.
In addition to battery swaps, Nio provided 1,065,435 charging services during the holiday, with more than 80% of those used by non-Nio vehicles, including those from Tesla, BYD, and Li Auto. As of February 7, Nio operates 3,107 battery swap stations in China, including 964 along highways, alongside 25,436 charging piles and access to over 1.19 million third-party charging points.
