NIO launches bidirectional EV charger, only allow users to rent

Nio has just launched a mobile charger which can also be used to provide power to other vehicles or devices.

The mobile charger can be used to charge their vehicle from 220V household plug with a maximum power of 2.85 kW, according to an article in the Nio application.

Meanwhile, for energy construction from vehicles to cars or other devices, the maximum release power is 3.3 kw.

The mobile charger supports all Nio production vehicles, including three models of SUVs, ES8, ES6 and EC6, and Sedan Et7.

But what was a little disturbing, the device could not be bought by the Nio car owner. The device is only available in the form of rental at RMB 168 ($ 25) per week.

The mobile charger will be present for certain cities at the end of July and at the end of August for all China.

Some consumers question why the device is only available with a rental system, Nio’s article said that they consider devices as relatively low frequency use products.

“We hope to make it convenient for more users to experience the product through the rental model first,” Nio Said.

From customer comments, some do not seem to be happy with the rental approach by Nio, and want the company to offer purchasing options.

“We Didn’t Expect So Many Users to Have the Need to Purchase, and We Accept the Feedback and Will Discuss More Services as Soon As Possible,” said CEO Nio, William Li responded to customer comments
