Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio has formally ended its joint venture with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), signaling a strategic shift following its transition to independent vehicle production capabilities.
The joint venture, Jianglai Advanced Manufacturing Technology (Anhui) Co., was initially established to support the production of Nio vehicles when the company did not yet hold its own manufacturing qualification. The partnership was deemed no longer necessary after Nio secured its production license in December 2023 and assumed control of two factories previously operated under JAC’s name.
Founded in 2016, the collaboration between Nio and JAC deepened with the creation of Jianglai in 2021, providing essential support services for the assembly of Nio models. With the dissolution of the venture, Nio clarified that the decision is part of normal operational adjustments and will not impact its ongoing production or business activities.
Although the manufacturing partnership has concluded, both companies plan to maintain cooperation in key areas of new energy vehicle development. This includes battery swap technologies, research and development, and component sourcing. Earlier this year, the companies signed a strategic agreement to work together on battery standardization and the development of swapping infrastructure.
Nio has since taken over the F1 and F2 manufacturing plants in Hefei, where it now conducts fully independent production. The F2 facility, located within the NeoPark industrial zone, began operations in 2022 and produces models such as the ET5 sedan.
As the company expands its vehicle lineup—including new products under the Onvo and Firefly sub-brands—Nio is also preparing to launch its third manufacturing facility, the F3 plant, which is expected to become operational in September.
