Chinese smart driving technology firm Momenta has invested in Zeron Truck, a domestic startup specializing in electric heavy-duty vehicles, as part of Zeron’s RMB 500 million (approximately $70 million) Series A funding round. Momenta was named as one of three lead investors in the round.
The investment marks Momenta’s first involvement in the commercial truck segment. The company, known for providing driver assistance systems to several automakers in the passenger car industry, is extending its focus within the broader smart driving ecosystem through this partnership.
Founded in April 2022, Zeron was established by Huang Zhehua, previously a co-founder of autonomous truck company TuSimple, and Zhang Hongsong, former general manager at Sany Truck. Zeron has assembled a team of more than 200 people working across multiple technical areas including electric powertrains, thermal management, electrical architecture, vehicle connectivity, and autonomous driving.
Zeron’s electric trucks feature a power output of up to 860 horsepower, which is above the standard for most diesel-powered heavy-duty vehicles. In 2024, the company introduced its first two models, the Jingzhe and Xiaoman, which have since recorded nearly 700 unit deliveries and a combined operational mileage exceeding 25 million kilometers.
In addition to product development, Zeron is advancing autonomous driving capabilities. It introduced its ZSD end-to-end driving technology last year and is now pursuing multi-modal large model systems to support higher levels of driving automation.
According to local media outlet 36kr, Zeron’s delivery target for 2025 is 1,500 units. The latest funding is expected to support further expansion of its technology and production capabilities.
