The Hoyer Group has expanded its electric vehicle fleet with four fully battery-electric trucks now operating on regular transport routes in Switzerland, marking the company’s first deployment of four electric trucks in routine operations in the country.
The logistics provider, which specialises in the transportation of liquid goods, has integrated the battery-electric vehicles into its day-to-day route planning.
Hoyer has not disclosed the manufacturers or models of the four trucks. At least one vehicle shown in company imagery appears to be a MAN truck, potentially an eTGX.
Intelligent Charging Supports Daily Operations
Hoyer has introduced an intelligent charging system to support the operation of its battery-electric fleet and coordinate charging with planned vehicle deployment.
The system aligns energy supply with the vehicles’ expected operating schedules for the following day. Trucks are charged at the depot after completing their daily routes, with charging infrastructure supplied by Kempower visible at the site.
According to Hoyer, the energy management system is designed to maximise vehicle availability while ensuring the trucks are adequately charged for their scheduled operations.
Electric Trucks Enter Liquid Goods Operations
The deployment represents another step in Hoyer’s efforts to introduce lower-emission transport solutions in cooperation with its customers.
The company already operates vehicles using alternative drivetrains in several countries for factory, local and long-distance transport. Its fleet includes LNG and CNG trucks as well as a fuel-cell vehicle.
Hoyer also uses electric industrial trucks in its warehouse operations.
Following the initial period of operation in Switzerland, Hoyer said the battery-electric trucks have demonstrated their performance in the liquid gases segment.
Efficiency Gains Support Decarbonisation
Hoyer Group Director SHEQS Thies Grage said the use of fully electric vehicles could significantly reduce energy consumption compared with conventional diesel-powered trucks.
“By deploying fully electric vehicles, we can significantly reduce our energy consumption by around two-thirds compared to diesel engines.”
Grage said the efficiency gains are an important part of the company’s sustainability ambitions and can contribute to reducing emissions from its transport activities.
The Swiss deployment adds to Hoyer’s broader efforts to diversify its fleet with alternative powertrains and develop more sustainable logistics solutions across its transport operations.
