MOKE International has launched operations in California after becoming the first low-volume electric vehicle manufacturer to earn approval from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), marking a significant regulatory milestone for the company. The expansion includes the debut of its limited-run “California Collection” and the appointment of Shaver Automotive as its initial retail and service partner in the state.
The CARB certification enables MOKE International to enter one of the world’s most regulated EV markets. The company said the approval underscores its compliance with California’s emissions requirements, noting that the achievement positions the Electric MOKE for broader U.S. availability.

The retail partnership with Shaver Automotive is expected to support sales, deliveries and maintenance operations across the region. Andrew Shaver, President of Shaver Automotive, said the group plans to open multiple experiential outlets in the Los Angeles area to support early demand.
The “California Collection,” exclusive to the U.S. market, draws inspiration from the 1972 MOKE Californian— the first version of the vehicle sold in the country. The new series retains the vehicle’s classic styling while updating the platform with a fully electric, lithium-ion powertrain. All units are handcrafted in the United Kingdom, with more than 70% of components sourced from Europe. The collection is offered in three market-specific colour options: Sonoma Red, Laguna Blue and Venice White.

The Electric MOKE is classified as a highway-legal EV rather than a low-speed neighbourhood electric vehicle. It offers a top speed of 50 mph, up to 54 miles of range and a quiet electric motor designed for leisure driving. U.S. allocation for 2026 is limited to 325 units, with pricing beginning at US$49,500. Customers can reserve a build slot with a refundable US$990 deposit.
