MG Motor recorded strong growth in 2025, delivering its 100,000th electric vehicle in the UK and surpassing 300,000 total vehicle sales across Europe for the first time, the company said, underscoring the growing role of EVs and hybrids in its regional strategy.
The carmaker, owned by SAIC Motor, said European sales rose by nearly 30% year-on-year, supported by solid demand in its home UK market and key countries including Spain and Italy. In the UK, MG Motor ranked as the 10th best-selling brand for the second consecutive year, registering 85,155 vehicles in 2025, up 4.4% from a year earlier, in a market where only a handful of top brands posted growth.
MG closed the year strongly in the UK, ranking second in December registrations with 9,846 deliveries, behind Volkswagen. The MG HS finished 2025 as the UK’s eighth best-selling car, while the brand also emerged as the second best-selling marque in Wales over the full year.
Across Europe, MG said its expanding retail footprint—now spanning 34 countries with nearly 1,300 retail partners—helped drive growth. In Spain, MG ranked as the fifth best-selling brand among private customers with 45,168 registrations. The MG HS plug-in hybrid was the country’s top-selling PHEV with 8,039 private deliveries, while the MG ZS SUV was Spain’s second best-selling passenger vehicle and the leading SUV.
In Italy, MG delivered 50,064 vehicles in 2025, a 25% increase from the previous year, capturing a 3.3% market share. Electrified vehicles accounted for 53% of sales, and MG ranked second in full-hybrid vehicle volumes, the company said.
MG continued to expand its European product lineup in 2025, launching the MGS5 EV SUV and introducing the technology-focused MG IM range in markets including the UK, Norway and Switzerland. The company also unveiled the MGS6 EV, a larger electric SUV, in the final quarter of the year. Its lineup now spans petrol, hybrid and electric models, from the compact MG3 to the electric MG Cyberster.
“MG continued to make positive progress in 2025 and in some markets we have established ourselves as a top 10 manufacturer,” said Guy Pigounakis, MG UK’s commercial director. “We can confirm the arrival of a range of new EVs as well as a significant announcement regarding MG’s access to state-of-the-art EV technology.”
MG said customers can expect a broader choice of electric vehicles and new technologies from 2026, as the brand looks to build on momentum generated by growing EV adoption across Europe.
