Mercedes-Benz Trucks has delivered the first eActros 600 battery-electric long-haul truck in Chile, marking the model’s debut in South America as freight operators in the region begin adopting zero-emission transport.
The vehicle was handed over to Empresas Cavalieri, which will use it to transport beverages for Compañía de Cervecerías Unidas (CCU) along the Santiago–Viña del Mar corridor in the Valparaíso region. Six additional units are scheduled for delivery to other Chilean customers in the coming weeks, the company said.
The eActros 600 offers an estimated driving range of about 500 kilometers (310 miles) per charge, enabling depot-to-depot operations without intermediate charging. This capability allows the truck to complete the assigned route on a single charge, eliminating the need for en-route infrastructure.
Chile becomes the first South American market to receive the model, with local distributor Kaufmann S.A. providing support services including technical consulting, driver training and charging advisory. The deployment forms part of CCU’s broader efforts to electrify its logistics operations.
The truck is equipped with three lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs totaling 621 kWh of installed capacity, with more than 95% usable energy, according to Mercedes-Benz Trucks. The batteries are designed for a service life of up to 1.2 million kilometers over ten years while retaining at least 80% of their original capacity.
Series production of the eActros 600 began at the company’s Wörth plant in Germany in late 2024. The vehicle features an in-house developed electric drive axle and supports gross combination weights of up to 44 tons, targeting long-distance freight operations traditionally dominated by diesel trucks.
Chile has set a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 and is expanding renewable energy generation, particularly solar and wind power, factors that could support the adoption of electric heavy vehicles.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks said customers in Chile will also benefit from a nationwide support ecosystem, including mobility guarantees and after-sales services, as the company expands its battery-electric truck portfolio in the region.
