Lyft and Tensor have announced plans for a strategic partnership to introduce Tensor’s NVIDIA-powered Robocar as the first consumer autonomous vehicle designed for integration with Lyft’s rideshare network, according to a joint statement from both companies. The collaboration aims to allow owners to monetize their vehicles on the Lyft platform, while Lyft itself has reserved hundreds of Robocars for future fleet operations.
The initiative marks a significant shift in vehicle ownership models by enabling consumers to deploy their personally-owned autonomous vehicles for rideshare services without being physically present. The Tensor Robocar will come “Lyft-ready” from the factory, allowing owners to earn income immediately after purchase. Lyft also plans to integrate the vehicles with its Flexdrive subsidiary to provide optional management services such as charging, cleaning, and maintenance, potentially maximizing uptime and revenue generation.

Under the partnership, both consumer and commercial deployment strategies will be pursued. Alongside private ownership, Lyft intends to operate its own fleet of Tensor Robocars across major markets in North America and Europe, subject to regulatory approvals.

The deployment will contribute to operational data collection and help accelerate the rollout of Level 4 autonomous vehicles for rideshare applications.

Powered by advanced NVIDIA DRIVE Thor systems, the Tensor Robocar incorporates over 100 sensors and supports fully autonomous operation features, including automated parking, charging, and maintenance. Tensor’s AI-driven foundation model for autonomous driving leverages large-scale data from both real-world driving and simulations for safety validation and system refinement.
Deliveries of Tensor Robocars are scheduled to begin by the end of 2026, with select market rollouts expected in 2027. In regions where both Lyft’s platform and Tensor’s Level 4 capabilities are available, vehicles will come pre-configured with integrated Lyft-ready software.
