Lucid plans to introduce a trio of new electric vehicles based on a midsize platform beginning in late 2026, with a target price point of around $50,000, the company’s interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said this week. The move marks Lucid’s entry into a more affordable EV segment dominated by Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y.
Lucid, known for its luxury Air sedan and upcoming Gravity SUV, is preparing to expand its lineup with three vehicles built on a new midsize EV platform. Speaking on the Automotive News Daily Drive podcast, Winterhoff said the platform will support “three top hats,” with two models launching close together and a third following shortly after.
“Our goal is to enter the core EV market,” Winterhoff said on the podcast. “We’re aiming for starting prices around $50,000.” Lucid’s plans include a crossover SUV and sedan, with details on the third model yet to be disclosed.
The initiative follows remarks from former CEO Peter Rawlinson, who in 2023 told investors that Lucid’s vertically integrated technology would allow it to reduce costs while increasing efficiency. “That’s right in the heart of Tesla Model 3, Model Y territory,” Rawlinson said at the time, referring to Lucid’s targeted price segment.
Lucid teased one of its midsize crossovers in a blurred image last September and has since relocated prototype operations to its newly opened Phoenix Hub, located at the former headquarters of hydrogen truck maker Nikola.
The company is currently focused on ramping up production of the Gravity SUV, which was unveiled late last year. Winterhoff noted that initial response to the Gravity has exceeded expectations. “In all of my 25 years of working in the automotive industry, I’ve never seen that positive feedback,” he said.
