Lucid will expand its lineup with a new midsize electric vehicle starting at about $50,000, the company said, confirming earlier plans to target the mass-market segment dominated by Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y.
The new model, Lucid’s third after the Air sedan and Gravity SUV, will be built on a dedicated midsize platform. Speaking at the Munich Motor Show, interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said the vehicle will be based on the recently unveiled Gravity X concept, a rugged version of the Gravity SUV featuring off-road upgrades such as all-terrain tires, lifted suspension, tow hooks, and an integrated LED roof rack.
Interior upgrades shown on the concept included leather seating, microsuede steering, and other premium touches designed for outdoor use. “Every detail was intentional,” Lucid said when presenting the Gravity X, signaling that many features could carry over to production.
Lucid plans to begin production of the midsize SUV in the second half of 2026, with deliveries likely in early 2027, followed by a sedan variant. Winterhoff said the company has secured sufficient funding to sustain operations into next year but acknowledged that “additional funds will be needed” to fully scale output.
The move underscores Lucid’s strategy to drive down EV costs after initially launching in the luxury segment. The Lucid Air, once priced as high as $169,000 for its Dream Edition in 2021, now starts under $70,000 for the 2025 model year.
