Lucid Motors has assembled the first prototypes of its upcoming mid-size electric SUV at its Arizona facility, marking a key step as the company looks to expand beyond its current premium offerings, company executives said.

Nick Twork, Lucid’s head of communications, said the prototypes were built at the company’s Casa Grande plant, where the manufacturer currently produces its Air sedan and Gravity SUV. “Spent time in our prototype build area today watching the first full Lucid midsize vehicles come together,” Twork wrote in a post on social media platform X. “Same Lucid DNA as Air and Gravity – space, efficiency, dynamics, and range – paired with dramatically improved manufacturability and cost structure. These are going to surprise people.”

Lucid has previously said it plans to develop three mid-size models, targeting a price point of around $50,000, about $20,000 less than the starting price of the Lucid Air in the United States. In Europe, where the Air currently starts at roughly 85,900 euros in Germany, the planned pricing would place the new models closer to the mid- to upper-range electric SUV segment, competing with offerings from established premium brands.

The company did not disclose technical specifications or a launch timeline. A rendering shared alongside Twork’s post showed a shadowed vehicle next to a Lucid Gravity, suggesting a smaller SUV with a more steeply sloped rear window, indicating a likely five-seat configuration rather than a seven-seat layout.

Lucid’s design chief, Derek Jenkins, said in 2024 that the company was planning three mid-size vehicles but ruled out an electric estate model. Based on his comments at the time, Lucid has been considering a sedan, an SUV and an off-road-oriented model.

While the prototypes were built in Arizona, series production of the mid-size vehicles is expected to take place elsewhere. Interim Chief Executive Mark Winterkorn has previously indicated that production is likely to be based at Lucid’s manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia, as the company seeks to scale output and reduce costs.
