Leapmotor delivered a record 81,569 vehicles in May, marking its highest monthly sales total to date as the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer continued to benefit from strong demand in its home market.
The May figure represented an 80.99% increase from a year earlier and a 14.26% rise from April, according to data released by the company. The result surpassed the previous monthly record of 71,387 vehicles set in April.
The latest performance extends a period of rapid growth for the automaker, which has emerged as one of China’s fastest-growing new energy vehicle brands.
Incentives and New Models Support Growth
To maintain sales momentum, Leapmotor introduced new vehicle purchase incentives in China for June, offering customer benefits worth up to 56,680 yuan ($8,380).
The company has also expanded its product lineup this year with the launch of the A10 compact sport utility vehicle in March and the D19 full-size SUV in April.
The new models form part of Leapmotor’s broader strategy to strengthen its position across multiple vehicle segments while increasing sales volume in China’s competitive electric vehicle market.
International Expansion Accelerates
Leapmotor is also stepping up its international ambitions through its partnership with automotive group Stellantis.
The company recently hosted a delegation of European dealers at its manufacturing facility in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, showcasing its production capabilities and vehicle quality as it seeks to expand overseas sales.
In June, Leapmotor plans to introduce its Lafa 5 electric hatchback in 28 international markets, further broadening its global presence.
The automaker and Stellantis are also planning to add a new production line at Stellantis’ Zaragoza plant in Spain, with production of the Leapmotor B10 potentially beginning as early as 2026.
In addition, the companies intend to transfer ownership of Stellantis’ Villaverde manufacturing facility in Madrid to their joint venture, Leapmotor International.
Premium Brand Planned
Alongside its international expansion, Leapmotor is preparing to enter higher-priced market segments.
The company confirmed last month that it is developing a new standalone brand focused on vehicles priced above 300,000 yuan.
The new marque is expected to debut its first products by the end of this year and could help the company expand beyond its traditional focus on affordable mass-market electric vehicles into higher-margin segments.
Deliveries Continue to Climb
During the first five months of 2026, Leapmotor delivered 263,111 vehicles, an increase of 51.51% compared with the same period last year.
The company has set a target of delivering 1 million vehicles annually by 2026, a goal that would place it among China’s largest electric vehicle manufacturers if achieved.
