Leapmotor has launched the D99, its first multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), expanding its product portfolio with a seven-seat model available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants.

The Stellantis-backed Chinese automaker introduced the D99 in six variants priced between 249,800 yuan (US$36,790) and 319,800 yuan. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on July 20.

Seven-Seat Family MPV

The D99 is positioned as a mid- to large-size MPV featuring a 2+2+3 seating configuration designed for families and customers seeking business-class comfort.

The EREV range starts at 249,800 yuan, while the fully electric BEV version starts at 259,800 yuan.

The vehicle measures 5,280mm in length, 1,995mm in width and 1,880mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,110mm.

BEV and EREV Powertrains

The extended-range version is built on an 800-volt electrical architecture and features an 80.3kWh battery pack.

Its dual-motor powertrain produces a combined 300kW and delivers a CLTC combined driving range of up to 1,160 kilometres.

The battery-electric version adopts a 1,000-volt high-voltage platform and is equipped with CATL’s new 115kWh super hybrid battery cell.

Leapmotor said the BEV offers a CLTC driving range of up to 700 kilometres and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in approximately five seconds.

Both versions support DC fast charging from 30% to 80% battery capacity in around 15 minutes.

Intelligent Cockpit and Driver Assistance

The D99 debuts an integrated central domain controller that combines cockpit and intelligent driving functions.

The system is powered by dual Qualcomm 8797 processors delivering a combined computing capability of 1,280 TOPS and supports Leapmotor’s Vision-Language-Action (VLA) assisted driving system.

Inside the cabin, the MPV features a five-screen intelligent interaction system, including a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display and a 21.4-inch rear entertainment display.

An AI-powered in-car assistant supports voice interaction across six seating zones.

Flexible Interior

Passenger comfort is a key focus of the D99.

The second row features zero-gravity aviation-style seats capable of rotating up to 180 degrees and offering a dedicated viewing mode.

The third-row seats fold flat to create additional cargo space or combine with the second row to form a sleeping area measuring nearly 2.5 metres in length.

The vehicle also provides 43 storage compartments throughout the cabin and offers a luggage capacity of 706 litres.

Ride comfort is supported by a dual-chamber closed air suspension system with active road preview functionality.

Expanding Product Portfolio

The launch of the D99 forms part of Leapmotor’s broader product expansion strategy as the company continues to grow its presence in China’s competitive new energy vehicle market.

The automaker has set a target of delivering one million vehicles during 2026 as it expands its lineup across multiple vehicle segments.
