Huawei-backed luxury automotive brand Maextro has launched the S800 Grand Design, a flagship ultra-luxury sedan aimed at challenging established premium brands in China’s high-end vehicle market.

The four-seat luxury sedan is priced from 1.388 million yuan (US$204,400), with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in late August.

Premium Variant of the S800

The S800 Grand Design is a high-end derivative of the standard S800 and is available with both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains.

The sedan measures 5,480mm in length, 2,000mm in width and 1,536mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,370mm.

Maextro is jointly developed by Huawei and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC) under Huawei’s Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA).

Chinese-Inspired Luxury Design

The Grand Design places a strong emphasis on Chinese aesthetics, introducing three exclusive exterior colours complemented by gold-finished exterior badging and trim.

Inside the cabin, the vehicle features 18 handcrafted wood panels produced using traditional marquetry techniques, alongside what Huawei describes as the industry’s first real-wood hands-on detection (HOD) touch-sensitive steering wheel compatible with advanced driver assistance systems.

A crystal control knob featuring 116 precision-cut facets further enhances the luxury interior.

Customers can also select an optional Chinese-inspired luxury package priced at 200,000 yuan, while existing S800 owners qualify for a 60,000 yuan discount.

The package includes a hand-embroidered starlight headliner created with more than 510,000 stitches, together with premium mulberry silk interior accessories.

Huawei Smart Driving Technology

The S800 Grand Design has been engineered around Huawei’s L3+ autonomous driving architecture.

It is equipped with the latest Qiankun ADS 5 intelligent driving system featuring a perception suite built around six LiDAR sensors.

The vehicle also introduces an upgraded redundant computing architecture incorporating dual system-on-chip processors and dual power supplies to improve operational reliability.

BEV and EREV Performance

The dual-motor version produces a combined maximum output of 390kW, while the tri-motor variant delivers up to 635kW.

The battery-electric version uses Huawei’s latest Giant Whale battery platform paired with a 120kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC driving range of up to 780 kilometres.

The extended-range version features a 65kWh battery and offers a combined CLTC driving range of up to 1,200 kilometres.

Expanding the Maextro Lineup

The S800 Grand Design targets affluent business customers seeking a domestically developed luxury alternative to imported ultra-luxury sedans, particularly models from Mercedes-Benz Maybach.

Huawei Consumer Business Group Chairman Richard Yu said cumulative deliveries of the standard S800 have exceeded 19,000 units since its launch in May 2025.

Alongside the Grand Design, Maextro also unveiled two new premium multi-purpose vehicles, the V800 and V680, further expanding the brand’s luxury vehicle portfolio.
