Tesla said on Monday that its new six-seat Model Y L SUV is “coming soon,” following leaked images showing updates to the vehicle’s interior. The images, circulating on Chinese social media, reveal several design changes compared with the recently refreshed Model Y.

According to a teaser video released by Tesla on Weibo and the leaked photos, the Model Y L features a black headliner for the first time in a Model Y, redesigned front seats with adjustable headrests, and a second-row layout of captain’s chairs with powered armrests. The third row has also been updated with armrests and cup holders.

Other visible changes include additional leg-rest support for front seats, four extra air vents mounted on the pillars — two for the second row and two for the third — and power-folding capability for both the second- and third-row seats. A larger rear spoiler was also noted by Tesla shareholder and enthusiast Sawyer Merritt on X.

Tesla said the Model Y L will initially be offered in China, though it has not confirmed availability in other markets. Vehicles have recently been spotted on Chinese roads and undergoing testing at Germany’s Nürburgring track, fueling speculation about a possible European release.

In a Weibo post accompanying the teaser video, Tesla wrote: “The Model Y L is about to debut, stay tuned.” The company first hinted at the variant in mid-July with an earlier teaser, suggesting a launch planned for autumn.

Technical details disclosed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show a dual-motor configuration for the Model Y L, with peak power outputs of 142 kW for the front motor and 198 kW for the rear.
