Finnish EV charging technology firm Kempower will supply DC fast-charging systems for a major new electric bus depot in Bayswater, Perth, as part of a collaboration with Charge Hub, Addelec, and Swan Group. The depot is designed to support Western Australia’s growing electric public transport network and is expected to begin operations by mid-2026.
The first stage of the project will provide charging infrastructure for 132 electric buses, with future capacity to expand to 180. Kempower’s modular system will offer dynamic power distribution to enable efficient overnight charging and ensure uninterrupted day-to-day transit services.
The project is being led by Kempower’s Australian partner Charge Hub, with technical support from installation contractor Addelec and site delivery specialist Swan Group. Charge Hub is responsible for the import, compliance, and commissioning of the infrastructure, while Addelec and Swan Group manage installation and construction.
“The Public Transport Authority of Western Australia are demonstrating clear leadership and dedication through their planning and commitment to deliver on their statewide electrification strategy,” said Paul Guy, Managing Director at Charge Hub. “Charge Hub fully supports their approach by establishing our new local office and working closely with Addelec and Swan Group to successfully deliver the Bayswater depot.”
Kempower described the depot as one of the largest electric bus facilities in the state. Carlo Cecchi, Director of New Markets at Kempower, said: “The Bayswater project marks another important milestone in our mission to support Australia’s decarbonization journey. We’re honored to have been selected by the PTA for another iconic project.”
The initiative aligns with Western Australia’s broader efforts to decarbonize public transport and establish long-term, sustainable infrastructure.
