The chargeBIG 18-36 AC fleet charging solution

Ideanomics and German automotive supplier, Mahle, have joined forces to bring a new charging solution to North America. Ideanomics will become the development partner and exclusive distributor of the chargeBIG 18-36 AC fleet charging solution for the next five years.

This new system is already a hit in Europe, with over 1,500 charging points supplied to over 20 customers, and now it will be available to North American customers starting in the second quarter of 2023. The first orders are expected to be fulfilled in early 2024.

This exciting addition to Ideanomics Energy’s lineup of charging solutions includes AC depot charging, DC high power charging, wireless charging and mobile charging. What sets the chargeBIG 18-36 AC apart is its impressive load management software and modular design, which can charge up to 36 vehicles from a single system that is about the size of a refrigerator. It is a scalable, cost-efficient charging solution for any indoor or outdoor application, including depot charging, warehouses, parking lots, and more.

Jan Freimann, Senior Vice President for Ideanomics Energy, explains that this partnership with Mahle will also allow them to optimize the system for North American commercial fleets, including the UL certification. The new DC charger installed at Mahle’s climatic wind tunnel in Germany will also aid in this effort. Furthermore, the system already meets the regulatory requirements for charging infrastructure under California law.

The chargeBIG 18-36 AC is easy to install and provides dynamic load management for up to 36 individual charging points with a charging power of 7 kW, 11 kW, or 19 kW. It has been a popular choice in Europe and is now ready to take on North America. Ideanomics has already made a strategic move in the electric vehicle charging space by acquiring Via Motors in August 2021 and positioning Ideanomics Energy as the preferred charging solutions provider for Via’s electric trucks.
