The cumulative sales of environmentally friendly vehicles under the Hyundai Motor Group reached 1 million until July 2022.

This figure is the achievement of an automotive company from South Korea after 13 years of entering the “green car” segment, or the sales of two affiliates of Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. citing Yonhap data, Monday (8/8).

Hyundai Motor, recorded cumulative sales of 556,854 units, and the rest was contributed by Kia for more than a decade.

According to the company summary, the two brands sold 29,484 eco-friendly vehicles in July 2022, and the results increased cumulative sales to 1.024 million last month.

This achievement came after the Hyundai Motor Group entered the green vehicle market in July 2009 with the launch of a hybrid model of a subcompact car, the Hyundai Avante.

The Grandeur Hybrid itself debuted in 2013 as the best-selling environmentally friendly car in the world with cumulative sales reaching around 184,000 units.

Kia’s hybrid model, the Niro, followed with around 126,500 sales, followed by the Sonata hybrid with around 98,300 units sold.

Hyundai Motor Group said sales of green vehicles are likely to experience even higher growth amid the growing popularity of electric vehicles in the world.

Meanwhile for the fully electric model, the automotive giant will rely on the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 which have captured the attention of the world automotive public.
