Hyundai Motor America has launched a new car subscription service that provides consumers with an alternative to purchasing or leasing an electric vehicle. Called Evolve+, the service was unveiled at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show and offers customers the chance to rent a Kona Electric or Ioniq 5 for either $699 or $899 per month, depending on the model. The subscription fee includes 1,000 miles of driving, maintenance, registration, roadside assistance, and insurance.
The appeal of Hyundai’s new service lies in its month-to-month nature, offering the freedom to cancel the subscription after a single month without any long-term commitment.

“With no paperwork, no commitment, and no long-term loan, Evolve+ is an optimal solution for the ‘EV- curious’ car shopper. We’ve prioritized simplicity and flexibility with the subscription process, allowing customers to place orders and renew on their terms on their own time all via smartphone,” said Olabisi Boyle, vice president of product planning and mobility strategy for Hyundai USA.
What sets Evolve+ apart from other car subscription services is its month-to-month nature, allowing customers to cancel at any time without commitment. The process is simple and flexible, with orders and renewals able to be made via smartphone.
Hyundai hopes that Evolve+ will encourage more people to adopt electric vehicles by providing a convenient and affordable option to try out an EV before making a larger commitment. Currently, the service is available in six states, with plans to expand to additional locations by the end of the year.

The automaker believes that the service is not just for those curious about EVs, but also for those in need of a car for a short period. With rental prices often being expensive, Evolve+ provides a more affordable and eco-friendly option for people on work trips or students who are home for the holidays.
Dealers participating in the Evolve+ pilot program are enthusiastic about the service, with one dealer calling it a “really easy” way for consumers to drive an EV in a flexible way. The subscription fee is paid through a dedicated app, with the car available for pickup at a predetermined location.
Compared to traditional daily car rentals, Hyundai claims that Evolve+ is approximately half the price. Impressed customers can even purchase or lease the vehicle after their subscription period is over. Unlike Hyundai’s plan, other car subscription services, such as Volvo’s recently updated plan, require a minimum commitment of five months.
