Hyundai’s all-electric IONIQ 5 SUV has marked a significant milestone, surpassing 262,000 sales across 24 countries, solidifying its position as a key player in the EV market.
Launched in February 2021, the IONIQ 5 represents Hyundai’s inaugural model under its dedicated EV brand, signaling a new chapter for the Korean automaker.
Built on Hyundai’s dedicated Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 5 boasts a sizable battery capacity, providing an EPA-estimated range of up to 303 miles, making it a compelling choice for environmentally conscious consumers.
The E-GMP platform’s standout feature is its 800V fast charging capability, enabling the IONIQ 5 to charge from 10% to 80% in a mere 18 minutes. In just 5 minutes, the SUV can gain up to 68 miles of range, showcasing the platform’s convenience and efficiency.
Since its US debut in May 2021, the IONIQ 5 has achieved remarkable sales figures, nearly matching its sales in Korea. Hyundai has sold 66,938 units in Korea and 66,481 in the US, contributing to the total of over 262,000 units sold globally as of February 2024.
The IONIQ 5’s success extends beyond Korea and the US, with sales reaching significant numbers in other key markets. Countries such as Germany (33,731), the UK (14,426), Canada (11,526), and Norway (10,426) have embraced the electric SUV, highlighting its global appeal.
To further enhance its appeal, Hyundai recently introduced a refreshed version of the IONIQ 5 in Korea. The updated model features minor design enhancements, increased battery capacity, and even faster charging capabilities. With an upgraded 84 kWh battery, the IONIQ 5 now offers up to 301 miles (485 km) of range in Korea, up from 285 miles (458 km) provided by the previous 77.4 kWh battery.
