Chinese tech giant Huawei, in collaboration with local automaker Chery, has introduced its first electric vehicle (EV) under the newly established Luxeed brand. The Luxeed S7, a mid to large-size all-electric sedan, aims to heighten competition in China’s burgeoning EV sedan market.
Richard Yu, the head of Huawei’s automotive business, officially launched the Luxeed S7 during an event in Shanghai. The sedan is available in four variants—Pro, Max, Max+, and Max RS—with pricing starting at RMB 249,800 ($34,920), RMB 289,800, RMB 319,800, and RMB 349,800, respectively.
Notably, the official starting prices are RMB 8,200 lower than the pre-sale figures from November 9, which were RMB 258,000, RMB 298,000, RMB 328,000, and RMB 358,000 for the respective variants. Early Luxeed S7 buyers, up until December 31, can benefit from entitlements of up to RMB 55,000, including RMB 15,000 worth of Huawei’s ADS 2.0 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) software.
Comparing the Luxeed S7 to Tesla’s Model S, Yu emphasized similarities in dimensions. The Luxeed S7 measures 4,971 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,474 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. Meanwhile, the Model S is slightly longer but narrower and lower, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm.
Built on Huawei’s 800 V-based Giant Whale high-voltage platform, the Luxeed S7 offers varying driving ranges. The top-tier version, priced at RMB 319,800, boasts a CLTC range of up to 855 km. The other three variants offer CLTC ranges of 550 km, 630 km, and 705 km, respectively.
Highlighting the charging capabilities, the Luxeed S7 can achieve a range of 215 km in just five minutes and 430 km with a 15-minute charge. The model is available in single-motor and dual-motor versions, with Huawei supplying the motors. The dual-motor four-wheel-drive variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 3.3 seconds.
