Aito, a company supported by Huawei, has introduced the new M5 Ultra in China as an update to its existing M5 model, alongside a refreshed version of its flagship M9 SUV.
The M5 Ultra, which follows the M5 launched in September 2022, features minor design revisions but retains its predecessorās drivetrain options. Aito has reduced prices across the lineup by 20,000 yuan ($2,800), positioning the M5 Ultra competitively in the mid-size SUV segment. The battery-electric version with rear-wheel drive features an 83 kWh LFP battery, delivering 200 kW of power and up to 602 km of CLTC range, priced at 239,800 yuan ($33,050). The extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variant starts at 229,800 yuan ($31,700), while the all-wheel-drive EREV version is priced at 249,800 yuan ($34,450). The EREV models feature a 42 kWh battery, offering an electric range of up to 255 km, supplemented by a gasoline-powered generator.
Aito claims the M5 Ultra has been improved in five key areas: exterior, interior, handling, safety, and intelligent driving. The base model is equipped with a 192-channel lidar system and multiple radar sensors to enhance automated driving capabilities. Deliveries are set to begin on April 3.
Meanwhile, Aito has also updated its largest SUV, the M9, but without altering its pricing. The 5.23-meter-long premium SUV remains available in seven variants, ranging from 469,800 yuan to 569,800 yuan ($64,750 to $78,550). The most notable upgrade includes the addition of four lidar unitsāpreviously only oneāpositioned at the front, rear, and sides. The M9 now operates on Huaweiās Qiankun ADS 3.3 autonomous driving system, with plans to upgrade to ADS 4 in the third quarter.
The M9 BEV variant comes with a 100 kWh battery, offering a range of 605 to 630 km depending on drivetrain configuration. The EREV version features a 52 kWh battery with a pure-electric range of 266 km, while its range-extending gasoline generator enables a combined range of up to 1,474 km.
With these updates, Aito aims to strengthen its position in China’s competitive electric and hybrid SUV market.
