SAIC Motor’s MG brand has opened pre-sales for the all-electric MG 07 fastback sedan in China, marking the brand’s first production model equipped with LiDAR as it expands into the country’s highly competitive mainstream electric vehicle market.
The MG 07 is available in five battery-electric variants with pre-sale prices starting at 125,900 yuan (approximately US$18,540), below earlier market expectations of around 150,000 yuan.
Five Variants Offered Ahead of Market Launch
MG has priced the entry-level 650 Comfort variant at 125,900 yuan during the pre-sale period. The 610 LiDAR and 610 Flagship versions are priced at 135,900 yuan and 145,900 yuan, respectively, while the long-range 845 LiDAR and 845 Flagship variants carry introductory prices of 155,900 yuan and 165,900 yuan.
The automaker plans to officially launch the model in late August. Deliveries of the approximately 600-kilometer range variants are scheduled to begin at the end of August, with deliveries of the 845-kilometer versions expected in early October.
The MG 07 is the first MG model to feature LiDAR technology. All variants except the entry-level version are equipped with one LiDAR sensor and 11 exterior cameras.
Momenta Driver Assistance Debuts on MG Model
The MG 07 is also the first vehicle to adopt Momenta’s R7 world-model driver assistance system, paired with the Xheart X7 artificial intelligence chip designed for large AI models.
The entry-level 650 Comfort variant instead uses Horizon Robotics’ Journey J6B processor and does not include highway or urban navigation-assisted driving functions.
MG said advanced driver assistance capabilities will be provided free of charge for a limited promotional period.
Two Battery Configurations Available
The 650 and 610 variants are powered by a 67-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a front-mounted electric motor producing 176 kilowatts, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.9 seconds.
The higher-specification 845 variants use a larger 91-kilowatt-hour battery together with a 235-kilowatt motor, reducing the 0-to-100-kilometer-per-hour acceleration time to 5.9 seconds.
The two battery configurations are built on different electrical architectures. The 845 variants utilize an 800-volt platform supporting 5C fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in approximately 12 minutes.
Meanwhile, the 650 and 610 variants use a 400-volt architecture with a peak charging rate of 3C, requiring around 20 minutes to reach the same state of charge.
Battery suppliers also differ between the two versions. The 67-kilowatt-hour packs are hybrid solid-liquid batteries supplied by SAIC-backed Qingtao Energy, while the larger 91-kilowatt-hour batteries are ternary lithium packs provided by CATL.
Fastback Design and Premium Cabin
The MG 07 measures 4,886 millimeters in length, 1,900 millimeters in width and 1,485 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,825 millimeters.
The vehicle adopts a liftback fastback body style with four frameless doors and a power-adjustable rear spoiler offering five positions. Storage includes a 168-liter front trunk and a 697-liter rear cargo compartment.
Inside, the cabin is powered by Qualcomm’s 8295P cockpit chip and features a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen, a 21-speaker 7.1.4-channel audio system and a zero-gravity front passenger seat.
According to local media reports, MG is also developing a plug-in hybrid version of the MG 07, powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a WLTC battery-only driving range of 185 kilometers.
The MG 07 enters one of China’s most competitive automotive segments, where it will compete with models including the BYD Seal 07 DM-i and the Lynk & Co 07 EM-P. MG’s current electric vehicle lineup in China also includes the MG4 hatchback and the Cyberster electric roadster.
