Chinese technology giant Huawei is teaming up with automotive company BAIC BJEV to unveil their first joint creation, an all-electric sedan expected to take the spotlight in the first half of 2024. Insiders from BAIC BJEV have provided details about the upcoming vehicle, describing it as a spacious medium-to-large pure electric sedan that is reportedly ready for its official debut.
Huawei’s managing director, Yu Chengdong, revealed that the conglomerate has expanded its electric endeavors through collaborations with four automotive partners: Seres, Chery, BAIC BJEV, and JAC. Each collaboration has resulted in distinct offerings, including the AITO M9 with Seres, Luxeed S7 with Chery, a C-class pure electric smart vehicle with BAIC BJEV, and a luxury MPV with JAC.
The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) witnessed the transfer of multiple “STELATO” trademarks from Huawei to BAIC BJEV. While the official Chinese name for the brand is yet to be disclosed, “STELATO” appears to be Huawei’s play on the Italian word “stellato,” translating to “starry,” suggesting an aspirational theme for the new venture.
During the Luxeed S7 launch conference, Yu Chengdong hinted at the joint venture’s model, internally coded X4, indicating an anticipated price range of RMB 300,000 – 400,000 (€39,400 – €52,600). Following a model similar to AITO’s business strategy, BAIC BJEV will provide the vehicle platform and oversee production, with Huawei taking the lead in product definition and paving the way for potential inclusion in Huawei’s sales channels.

As collaboration efforts progress, Huawei’s partnership with JAC is also gaining traction. Additionally, an MPV model stemming from this collaboration is in the development pipeline, with a projected launch in 2025.
