Horizon Fuel Cell Group has acquired the intellectual property of U.S.-based hydrogen vehicle maker Hyzon Motors Inc., in a move to strengthen its position in the global market for hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks.
The acquisition will enable Horizon to continue servicing Hyzon’s customer base in the United States, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand while integrating its own advanced fuel cell systems into the platform.
Horizon plans to deploy its VLS-IV Series 400kW fuel cell stack in future heavy-duty truck models, targeting a 15% to 20% reduction in hydrogen consumption compared with earlier designs.
The company said the technology delivers diesel-equivalent performance in range, payload, and operational capability, positioning hydrogen as a competitive alternative to both diesel and battery-electric options for demanding transport applications.
Founded in 2003, Horizon has focused on innovation in fuel cell and electrolyser technology. It aims to reduce reliance on diesel in commercial transport by delivering scalable, efficient hydrogen solutions.
The integration of Hyzon’s vehicle platforms with Horizon’s fuel cell systems is expected to accelerate adoption of zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles in global markets, where decarbonizing long-haul transport remains a key challenge.
