The Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5 are two of the best electric crossovers on the market today. Both promise practicality, the latest technology and more than enough range for everyday use.
But, is there one that is superior to the other? The owner of the Yotube account Gjeebs gave a little comparison between the Model Y and the Ioniq 5. Gjeebs is the owner of the Model Y which Ioniq 5 loaned out for a week to compare the two. He was impressed with some of the things the Ioniq 5 had and noted it was better than the Model Y he’s had so far.
First are some cool features on the inside of the Ioniq such as a magnetic dashboard that will hold the phone while driving.
Another thing that Gjeebs notes is that the climate control on the Ioniq 5 has a variety of different intensity options, in some ways working better than his Model Y.
The Ioniq 5 has an adjustable regenerative braking intensity of the car. On the Ioniq 5 there are ventilated seats on the Ioniq 5 – something not found on the Model Y. Overall, the seats are also more comfortable than the Model Y. Overall the car has a premium feel. The Ioniq 5 has a reclining rear seat, something only found in premium sedans.
For the exterior appearance, Gjeebs highlights the retro look of the Ioniq 5 and its iconic lights. The lamp by Gjeebs is considered more distinctive than the Model Y which is considered a bit bland. In addition, the Ioniq 5 has better seat adjustment and an almost fully foldable rear seat.
While not mentioned in the video, the Ioniq 5 is also significantly cheaper than the Y (even in Remote AWD form). Charging time is also faster.
However, Gjeebs said the Model Y remains number one for him. The second place is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 which is said to be superior to the Ford Mustang Mach-E and VW ID.4.
Gjeebs notes that charging, the Ioniq 5 is a great choice for a day in the city and perfect for those who don’t really care about charging infrastructure.
