Hai Phong has added 99 VinFast VF 8 electric SUVs to its government fleet as the Vietnamese port city accelerates efforts to electrify public transportation and official vehicles.
Located about 120 kilometres southeast of Hanoi, Hai Phong recently delivered the new electric SUVs to local authorities following a public procurement process managed by the city’s Department of Finance.
Government Fleet Expansion
According to city officials, the fleet was supplied by the Au Lac–Thang Long Joint Venture after winning a public tender valued at nearly 84 billion dong. The contract was awarded at a price approximately 5 billion dong, or 5.5%, below the maximum approved budget for the procurement.

The Hai Phong People’s Committee officially handed over the vehicles during a ceremony at the Central Political and Administrative Square.
The new fleet has been distributed across 98 of the city’s 114 communes, wards and special administrative zones, where the vehicles will be used for government operations.
The deployment supports Hai Phong’s long-term objective of converting all buses and public service vehicles, excluding specialized vehicles, to electric or other green-energy powertrains by 2030.
VF 8 Targets Global Markets
Although the VF 8 is one of VinFast’s flagship electric SUVs, the model has primarily been positioned for export markets rather than domestic sales in Vietnam.
VinFast typically does not disclose standalone sales figures for the model because of its relatively low domestic demand. In 2025, the combined deliveries of the VF 8, VF 9 and Lac Hong models totaled 13,962 units out of the company’s overall domestic sales of 175,099 electric vehicles.
Two Powertrain Options
The VinFast VF 8 is available in Vietnam with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
The front-wheel-drive version is powered by a single electric motor producing 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.8 seconds. It uses an 87.7 kWh battery that delivers a driving range of up to 562 kilometres under the NEDC testing cycle.
The all-wheel-drive model adds a second motor, increasing combined output to 300 kW and 620 Nm of torque while reducing the 0-100 km/h acceleration time to 5.58 seconds. Using the same 87.7 kWh battery pack, the AWD variant offers a WLTP driving range of up to 457 kilometres.
New Generation Arriving
VinFast is currently offering discounts on the outgoing VF 8 ahead of the arrival of the second-generation model.

The current front-wheel-drive version is priced at 853.1 million dong after discounts, while the all-wheel-drive variant is available from 1.025 billion dong.
The company introduced the second-generation VF 8 in May with a starting price of 999 million dong and plans to begin customer deliveries later this month.
