Vietnamese electric mobility company Green SM has officially entered the Indian market, launching its electric taxi service in the country’s capital region and marking its fifth international expansion.
The Vingroup-backed company has begun operations in Delhi, Gurugram and Noida, deploying a fleet of electric multi-purpose vehicles based on the VinFast Limo Green platform. In India, the vehicle will operate under the name Green SM Limo.
According to local reports, Green SM has initially deployed approximately 1,000 electric vehicles and plans to expand its fleet to 10,000 units as it scales operations across the country.
Focus on Delhi-NCR Market
Green SM’s ride-hailing service is currently available in the National Capital Region (NCR), one of India’s largest urban mobility markets. The company said it intends to expand into additional cities in phases as its operations grow.
The Green SM Limo is a seven-seat mid-size MPV designed to offer a premium passenger experience. While larger than many conventional ride-hailing vehicles operating in India, the company believes the vehicle can serve a range of mobility needs, including airport transfers and corporate transportation.
In an interview with local automotive media, Green SM India Chief Operating Officer Manoj Ravikanti indicated that the company may later introduce smaller and lower-cost electric vehicle options to broaden its market reach.
Targeting Airport and Corporate Travel
Green SM expects airport transfers to account for approximately 33% of its total rides in India.
The company projects that corporate customers will contribute between 18% and 20% of bookings, while the remaining demand is expected to come from individual consumers using the service for everyday transportation.
To attract new users, Green SM launched a promotional campaign offering a 50% discount on rides booked through its mobile application, with savings capped at 250 Indian rupees.
Safety and Comfort Features
The company has equipped its electric taxis with a range of safety and convenience features.
Each vehicle includes interior and exterior cameras, emergency support buttons, and passenger amenities such as bottled water and wet tissues.
The Green SM Limo also features rear air-conditioning vents and USB Type-C charging ports in the second row, enhancing comfort for passengers during longer journeys.
Expanding Global Presence
India becomes the fifth international market for Green SM as the company continues to expand its electric mobility business beyond Vietnam.
Commenting on the launch, GSM Global Chief Executive Officer Nguyen Van Thanh highlighted the importance of the Indian market to the company’s long-term growth strategy.
“India is one of the most important mobility markets in the world. Its scale, rapid growth, and strong spirit of innovation are opening up many opportunities for the future of green transportation,” Thanh said.
“We come to India with respect for the market, confidence in its long-term potential, and a commitment to working closely with local partners.”
The move reflects growing competition in India’s emerging electric mobility sector, where ride-hailing companies and fleet operators are increasingly investing in battery-electric vehicles as the country seeks to reduce emissions and dependence on imported fossil fuels.
