Great Wall Motor (GWM) has opened pre-orders for the Wey V8X, a new five-seat flagship sport utility vehicle positioned below the Wey V9X, as the automaker expands its premium electrified lineup.
The company has not yet announced pricing for the model, although display vehicles and test-drive units are beginning to arrive at dealerships across China. Customers placing early orders are eligible for a promotional offer allowing a 2,000-yuan (approximately US$300) deposit to be credited as 5,000 yuan toward the final purchase price.
Wey V8X Expands GWM’s Premium SUV Lineup
The Wey V8X is built on GWM’s Global One S platform, which also underpins the Wey V9X launched earlier this year.
Measuring 5,125 millimeters long, 2,025 millimeters wide and 1,821 millimeters high, the V8X shares the V9X’s 3,050-millimeter wheelbase while featuring a slightly shorter and lower body.
The SUV will be offered in two all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid variants, both powered by GWM’s Hi4 hybrid system paired with a dedicated four-speed hybrid transmission.
The Ultra variant combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with dual electric motors to produce a maximum system output of 450 kilowatts and peak torque of 790 newton-meters. GWM said the model accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 kilometers per hour.
The higher-specification Ultra+ features a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, increasing system output to 500 kilowatts and 930 newton-meters of torque. The company said the variant completes the 0-to-100-kilometer-per-hour sprint in 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 225 kilometers per hour. Even with a depleted battery, it is capable of accelerating to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.7 seconds.
800V Platform and 6C Fast Charging
Both variants are equipped with front and rear electric motors producing peak outputs of 110 kilowatts and 220 kilowatts, respectively.
Power is supplied by a 66.6-kilowatt-hour ternary lithium battery operating on an 800-volt electrical architecture.
According to GWM, the V8X offers a CLTC battery-electric driving range of 402 kilometers and a WLTC electric range of 312 kilometers. Total driving range under the CLTC standard reaches 1,659 kilometers for the Ultra and 1,638 kilometers for the Ultra+.
The SUV supports 6C ultra-fast charging, enabling the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in approximately nine minutes. A five-minute charging session can provide up to 170 kilometers of additional driving range.
AI Driving Assistant and Future Battery-Electric Model
The Wey V8X features GWM’s AI-powered cockpit assistant, Xiaowei Tongxue, which integrates voice-controlled vehicle functions and intelligent driving features.
According to the company, drivers can use voice commands to initiate driving, change lanes, adjust speed, perform U-turns and complete automated parking maneuvers.
The SUV also supports parking-space-to-parking-space Navigation on Autopilot (NOA), including autonomous driving within residential communities and commercial complexes.
GWM said it also plans to introduce a battery-electric version of the Wey V8X. The future model will feature dual electric motors delivering peak outputs of 220 kilowatts at the front and 320 kilowatts at the rear, further expanding the Wey lineup beyond plug-in hybrid powertrains.
