Leading tire manufacturer from the United States (US), Goodyear, has demonstrated its ambition to completely replace petroleum-derived oils in its tire products by 2040 by releasing commercial tires made in part with soybean oil compounds.
For the first time in commercial truck tires, Goodyear revealed that the use of this soybean oil compound will begin to replace the use of petroleum-based materials in the Metro Miler G152 and G652 city transport tire models.
“This is a significant Goodyear innovation to reduce the amount of petroleum-based materials required for production,” said Dustin Lancy, Goodyear’s North America Commercial Product Marketing Manager.

According to Lancy, the soybean oil will replace about 11 ounces of free-flowing petroleum, almost as much as a traditional soda can on its tires.
“After multiplying by 1,600 bus fleet units, roughly the size used by some metropolitan cities in the US, the replacement could amount to 20 barrels less oil,” he explained.
The Goodyear Metro Miler G152 and G652 tires feature technology designed to resist sidewall damage, increase toughness and provide long tread life for commercial vehicles.
