Geely will introduce its EX2 electric city car – the global version of the Chinese bestseller Xingyuan – in markets across five continents over the next 12 months, marking a major step in the automaker’s international expansion strategy. The model, a rival to the BYD Dolphin Mini, will be produced in partnership with Renault.

“We are bringing one of China’s most popular electric cars to a truly global audience, making zero-emission mobility more accessible than ever,” a Geely spokesperson said. The rollout begins in Brazil, where Chinese EVs have gained significant traction. Production of the EX2 will take place locally through Renault do Brasil at its Ayrton Senna plant, leveraging Renault’s established dealer network.

The EX2 was first unveiled globally at Automechanika Frankfurt in September 2024 and launched in China shortly after under the name Geely Xingyuan. The model quickly became a hit, becoming the best-selling car in China between January and September 2025, with sales surpassing 400,000 units faster than any other vehicle. In August 2025, it was the world’s second best-selling electric car.

Built on Geely’s compact EV platform, the EX2 features a length of 4.14 metres, a width of 1.81 metres, and a height of 1.58 metres, with a 2.65-metre wheelbase. The company emphasises safety, noting that “the EX2’s battery uses a high-strength structure with real-time temperature monitoring and enhanced crash protection through an optimised crumple zone.”

The international version will incorporate updates from the 2026 Chinese-market Xingyuan, including an LFP battery from CATL with either 30.1 or 40.2 kWh capacity. The model offers a range of 310–410 kilometres (CLTC) and fast charging from 30 to 80 per cent in about 21 minutes. Customers can choose between a 58 kW or 85 kW rear-mounted motor.

Priced at 68,800 yuan (around €8,400) in China, the EX2 is one of the country’s most affordable EVs. Geely expects higher prices internationally but aims to maintain its value positioning. Over the next year, the automaker plans to launch the model in Europe, Southeast Asia, and other key markets, strengthening its global EV footprint alongside the EX5 SUV.
