Geely Auto said its STARRAY EM-i plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicle has set a Guinness World Records title for fuel efficiency after completing a long-distance drive in Australia with a verified consumption of 3.83 litres per 100 kilometres.
The record was achieved on the Sydney–Melbourne Coastal Drive, a route covering 1,056 kilometres, and was recognised as the lowest fuel consumption recorded by a plug-in hybrid production SUV on that journey, the company said.

The challenge was conducted between December 9 and December 10, 2025, under the supervision of Guinness World Records adjudicators. The route was selected to reflect real-world driving conditions, including urban traffic, coastal plains and hilly terrain, rather than controlled test environments.
Geely said the test vehicle, a STARRAY EM-i Long Range variant equipped with a 29.8 kWh battery, completed the drive with fuel consumption below its New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) rating of 4.4 L/100 km. The vehicle operates on Geely’s EM-i Super Hybrid Technology and is built on the company’s GEA architecture.
The powertrain combines a 1.5-litre internal combustion engine with an integrated electric drive system, allowing the vehicle to switch between electric-only, engine-only and hybrid driving modes depending on operating conditions. Geely said the system is supported by energy management software and an aerodynamic design intended to reduce drag.

The STARRAY EM-i, marketed as the EX5 EM-i in some regions, is positioned as a global model. As of November 2025, cumulative global sales had reached more than 114,000 units, according to the company. The vehicle has been introduced in markets including Australia, Italy, Mexico, South Africa and Indonesia.
Geely Auto Group, which is headquartered in Hangzhou, oversees brands including Geely Auto, Lynk & Co and Zeekr. The group said combined vehicle sales across its brands reached more than 2.17 million units in 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 32%.
