Geely Auto has completed trial production of its first EX5 electric SUV at its manufacturing facility in Puwakarta, Indonesia, marking a significant step in the Chinese automaker’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle (EV) footprint internationally.
The company made the announcement on Friday, stating that the milestone lays the groundwork for mass production, expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025. Annual capacity at the plant is projected to reach 20,000 units, Geely said.

The EX5 is a version of the Geely Galaxy E5 sold in China, where it starts at RMB 107,800 ($14,950). Geely officially entered the Indonesian market in January and is collaborating with local partner PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) to establish a localized production system.
Geely began pre-sales of the EX5 during the Indonesia Auto Show in February, and on April 19, the company delivered its 1,000th EX5 unit in the country.
“The successful trial production proves that the production line design and processes have been fully validated,” the company said in the announcement.

Geely said it plans to introduce five to seven models in Indonesia over the next three years, including battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and internal combustion models. The Indonesian plant will also serve as a production hub for the broader ASEAN market, the company added.
To support its expansion, Geely has already established 15 dealership outlets in Indonesia and aims to grow that number to 100 locations within the next three years.
