GAC Group’s electric vehicle unit, GAC Aion, has introduced the Aion UT Super, a compact hatchback built with CATL’s Choco-SEB battery swap technology, as part of efforts to stimulate sales through partnerships with CATL and JD.com.

The Aion UT Super is priced from RMB 89,900 ($12,630) including the battery pack, or RMB 49,900 under a battery rental plan.

Limited-time incentives lower the effective starting price to RMB 85,900 with the battery or RMB 45,400 under the rental option. The model is positioned as an affordable, flexible urban EV leveraging battery-swapping convenience for quick recharging.

Jointly developed by GAC Aion, JD.com, and CATL, the vehicle benefits from JD.com’s expertise in user insights, sales, and aftersales support. The five-seat hatchback measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase. It comes equipped with CATL’s #25 battery pack, a 54-kWh unit that delivers a range of up to 500 kilometers, and allows for a battery swap in 99 seconds.

CATL’s standardized Choco-SEB battery system, introduced in late 2024, is designed for interoperability across multiple vehicle types. The company currently operates 800 battery swap stations in China and plans to expand to 1,000 by year-end, and more than 2,500 stations across 120 cities by 2026.

The Aion UT Super marks the first use of CATL’s swap technology in the broader passenger EV market, following earlier taxi applications.
