Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer known for assembling Apple iPhones, is moving forward with plans to enter the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) market, aiming to launch its first electric crossover, the Model C, before the end of 2025. The company also announced a new partnership with Japan’s Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp. to produce battery-powered buses.
Foxconn plans to begin Model C production at its Taiwanese facility while pursuing certification for the vehicle in the United States. James Wu, a company spokesperson, said: “The Model C plan remains unchanged. For our U.S. customers’ initial orders, production will start in Taiwan, but our goal of manufacturing the Model C in the U.S. has not changed.” The company is also evaluating sites in North America for potential future production to serve the regional market.
In addition to its passenger EV ambitions, Foxconn will collaborate with Mitsubishi Fuso on electric buses based on Foxconn’s Model T full-size and Model U mid-size platforms. The vehicles were developed through Foxtron, a joint venture between Foxconn and Taiwanese automaker Yulon Motor Co., and are already in use within municipal fleets in Taiwan.
The partnership highlights Foxconn’s strategy to diversify from electronics manufacturing into electric mobility, even amid U.S. import policies on foreign-made EVs and the recent termination of certain EV incentives. The company said the collaboration with Mitsubishi Fuso will leverage its experience in battery-powered vehicles to expand its footprint in commercial EV markets.
