Fort Robotics has acquired Mapless AI, a company specializing in teleoperation and autonomy supervision technologies, as part of efforts to expand its platform for managing and monitoring autonomous and remotely operated machines.
The acquisition adds remote human-in-the-loop teleoperation capabilities and onboard active safety technologies to Fort Robotics’ existing machine control platform. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Expansion of Supervised Autonomy Capabilities
According to Fort Robotics, the acquisition broadens the functionality of its Trust Platform by enabling remote operators to monitor and, when necessary, control vehicles and equipment from off-site locations.
The integrated technology also includes onboard sensing systems designed to detect environmental conditions and support real-time responses to potential hazards.
The company said the combined platform is intended to allow a single operator to oversee multiple machines operating in different locations while maintaining human supervision when required.
Focus on Remote Operations and Safety
Mapless AI has developed technologies for teleoperation and autonomy supervision, areas that are receiving increasing attention as industries explore the deployment of autonomous equipment in complex operating environments.
The company’s technology is designed to support remote intervention capabilities and provide additional oversight for autonomous systems operating in sectors such as logistics, industrial operations, and transportation.
Fort Robotics said the acquisition complements its existing focus on safety-certified machine control systems.
Experienced Leadership Team Joins Fort Robotics
Mapless AI was founded by Philipp Robbel and Jeffrey Kane Johnson, whose backgrounds include research and development work in robotics, artificial intelligence, and autonomous systems.
The founders have previously worked with organizations including Bosch, Apple, Uber, Aptiv, and nuTonomy.
Fort Robotics stated that the addition of the Mapless AI team will support future development efforts across multiple industries.
Potential Applications Across Multiple Sectors
The company indicated that the expanded platform could be applied in markets including construction, logistics, defence, and last-mile delivery operations.
“Acquiring Mapless AI expands our platform to directly meet this vital need, allowing Fort to deliver the proactive safety frameworks our customers are asking for,” said Samuel Reeves, Chief Executive Officer of Fort Robotics.
Philipp Robbel, Co-Founder of Mapless AI, said the transaction would allow the company’s technology to be deployed within a broader platform.
“Joining the Fort family allows us to bring our safety-first vision to a much larger platform.”
Fort Robotics did not disclose a timeline for integrating the new capabilities into its existing product portfolio.
