Ford Motor started the year with strong electric vehicle (EV) sales in the United States, recording a 21.2% increase in January compared to the same period last year. The automaker sold 5,666 EVs last month, setting new records for both overall electric vehicle sales and Mustang Mach-E deliveries.
The Mustang Mach-E electric crossover led the charge, with sales surging 173% year-over-year to 3,529 unitsâits best-ever January performance. The Mach-E was the second-best-selling electric SUV in the U.S., trailing only Tesla’s Model Y.

Sales of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup also rose, with retail demand increasing 7.6%. Meanwhile, Fordâs hybrid lineup posted a strong performance, with the F-150 Hybrid reaching 4,368 units, a 38.2% increase from last year and a record start to the year. Lincoln also saw gains, with the Nautilus Hybrid accounting for half of the modelâs 1,205 total sales in January.
Fordâs total electrified vehicle salesâincluding hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and battery electric vehiclesâstood at 18,961 units last month, up 19.8% from the previous year, marking a new January record.

In 2023, U.S. EV sales reached 1.3 million units, up 7.4% year-over-year. While Tesla remained the dominant player with approximately 634,000 vehicles sold, its sales declined 5.6%, allowing legacy automakers like Ford to gain ground in the expanding EV market.
