Ford’s electric vehicle sales tripled in September compared to the same month last year. The arrival of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck has brought new surprises, although the main selling influence remains on the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Ford’s electric vehicle sales in September increased 197.3 percent compared to September a year earlier, reaching 4,691 units for the month in the local market. A huge increase that allowed the oval company to achieve a 7% market share among electric vehicles in the United States.

There are three electric vehicles that Ford currently has on the market: the Mustang Mach-E, the F-150 Lightning and the E-Transit electric van. The most popular by far is the Mustang Mach-E. Mustang Mach-E sales are up 47.3% from a year ago, with delivery times of just 10 days at dealerships according to Ford’s own data.

In September, 2,324 Mach-E units were sold in the local market, of which 28,089 have been sold so far this year (49% more than last year). If we add data from the European market, where sales have increased by more than 110% year-on-year, the Mustang Mach-E exceeded the 40,000 units sold in the accumulated 2022. The impressive price increase in recent months does not seem to affect the electric SUV. America.

For its part, the F-150 Lightning continues to make steady progress: since its launch last June, a total of 8,760 pick-ups have been sold. Of that total, 1,918 units were sold in September. Despite many rivals to come, today the F-150 Lightning is the best-selling electric pick-up in the United States.

In parallel, the best-selling electric van in the United States is the Ford E-Transit, with a 90% share of the electric van market. As of September, Ford had sold 4,387 electric vans. New York City recently announced its largest electric vehicle order, ordering 300 E-Transits and F-150 Lightnings, adding to the city’s existing fleet of 200 Ford Mustang Mach-Es.

In accumulated this year (January-September) Ford has shipped 1,317,574 cars in the United States, down 1% compared to last year. The share of electric vehicles from the total is 3.3%.
