Ford is recalling 29,501 of its 2024 and 2025 F-150 Lightning electric pickups in the United States due to a suspension defect that could lead to a loss of vehicle control, according to a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall affects 20,528 vehicles from the 2024 model year and 8,973 from the 2025 model year. Ford said the issue involves an improperly torqued nut on the ball joint of the front upper control arm. If the nut becomes loose, the control arm can separate from the knuckle assembly, potentially causing a loss of steering control. The company said it estimates only 1% of recalled vehicles are affected by the defect.

Ford reported that it was aware of one incident related to the defect. In March, a customer reported front wheel failure on a 2024 F-150 Lightning, prompting the vehicle to be towed to a dealership. Following an investigation, Ford decided to issue the recall for trucks produced between February 14, 2024, and April 14, 2025.
Notification letters will be sent to affected owners beginning June 9. Ford dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and, if necessary, replace the control arm knuckle and nut at no cost to owners. Ford’s internal recall reference number is 24S76.
