Ford Motor has appointed Christian Weingärtner as General Manager of Passenger Vehicles in Europe, effective Feb. 1, creating a new leadership role as the automaker accelerates its restructuring and electric vehicle strategy in the region.
In the newly established position, Weingärtner will be responsible for the strategic direction and operational execution of Ford’s passenger vehicle business in Europe. His remit includes overseeing the rollout of a new generation of affordable battery-electric vehicles under Ford’s strategic partnership with Renault, which was announced in December, the company said.

Weingärtner will also lead Ford Europe’s strategy team as well as a newly formed partnerships unit, reflecting Ford’s growing reliance on alliances to strengthen its product portfolio and cost base in a highly competitive market.
“As we enter this next chapter, we are leveraging strategic partnerships to deliver more affordable and iconic Ford products for our European customers,” said Jim Baumbick, president of Ford Europe. “Christian’s deep strategic expertise and operational experience make him the right leader to ensure our future passenger vehicles remain unmistakably Ford, while delivering our commercial ambitions.”

Weingärtner was appointed managing director of marketing and sales, as well as managing director for Ford in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, in 2022. As part of a broader restructuring centred in Cologne, he stepped down from Ford’s management board in November 2024 but continued operational responsibilities in the DACH region until about a year ago. In January 2025, Ford named him vice president of Europe business transformation.
In that role, Weingärtner played a central part in shaping Ford’s long-term strategy in Europe and advancing key partnership projects, according to the company. His promotion places him in a position broadly equivalent to Hans Schep, who leads Ford Pro, the company’s commercial vehicle division in Europe.

Ford said Schep will continue in his current role, maintaining the automaker’s leadership in the commercial vehicle segment, which it described as a core pillar of its European profitability. The creation of a parallel role for passenger vehicles marks a structural shift in how Ford manages its European operations.
Baumbick himself took over as president of Ford Europe on Nov. 1, 2025. Prior to that, Weingärtner was the most senior Ford executive in the region, underscoring his influence in the company’s ongoing transformation.
