Ford has released its BlueCruise 1.4 software update, increasing hands-free driving time for F-150 Lightning owners. The update is available for all 2022-2025 F-150 Lightning models equipped with the system, with 2025 vehicles shipped from the factory already featuring the latest software.

The update enhances the driving experience by making hands-free operation more natural and stable. According to Ford’s internal testing, drivers can remain in hands-free mode on highways up to eight times longer compared with the original BlueCruise 1.0. Compared with BlueCruise 1.2, hands-free time increases approximately fivefold.

BlueCruise 1.4 also improves lane-centering performance, reducing side-to-side deviations by nearly 80% from the first version. New features include In-Lane Repositioning, which automatically adjusts vehicle position when near large trucks, and Lane Change Assist, enabling hands-free lane changes with a tap of the turn signal.

The software rollout covers 2022-2024 F-150 Lightning and 2022-2023 F-150 vehicles. Ford plans to extend the improved hands-free capabilities to nine Ford and Lincoln models in the coming months. The automaker has already deployed BlueCruise 1.3 to 2021-2023 Mustang Mach-E vehicles.

Earlier this month, Ford also introduced a new STX trim for the 2026 F-150 Lightning, replacing the base XLT model and offering increased range and power at a comparable price.
