In a creative and eco-friendly move, Fiat introduces the “Gelateria Edition” of its 500e model, a compact electric vehicle that serves up icy delights in UK’s emission-sensitive zones.
Fiat has ingeniously combined electric mobility with delectable delights, presenting the charming Fiat 500e “Gelateria Edition.” This one-of-a-kind concept, based on the 500e electric vehicle, has been ingeniously transformed into an enchanting miniature ice cream truck, tailored for operation in the “Ultra Low Emission Zone” regions of the United Kingdom.
While Fiat proudly dubs it the “world’s smallest gelateria,” the label raises eyebrows, considering the possibility of even tinier ice cream-conveying vehicles or carts hidden amidst the picturesque streets of Italy.

Beneath its compact exterior, this unique 500e variant boasts the capacity to serve approximately 300 eager customers daily. The interior has been meticulously crafted, featuring a frozen gelato exhibit shielded by a nostalgic canopy that can be effortlessly raised. Within, two battery-powered freezers with a collective volume of 30 liters (8 gallons) safely house the frosty treats. The design also caters to storage of cones, tubs, and spoons. Notably, the passenger seats have been removed, transforming the 500e into a single-seater arrangement that allows the driver, who also doubles as the ice cream server, to navigate with ease. Moreover, the vehicle ingeniously accommodates deck chairs for patrons seeking a place to indulge in their frozen treats.
Externally, Fiat has opted for a captivating two-tone paint finish, harmonizing light blue and cream hues reminiscent of Italy’s iconic gelaterias from the 1950s. This aesthetic theme is carried into the interior, where “Gelateria” insignia graces the cream-finished dashboard, fenders, doors, and trunk. To capture attention on the go, a custom chime emitting operatic notes has been thoughtfully integrated.
In a truly innovative move, Fiat has even concocted a new gelato flavor inspired by the traditional Turin beverage known as Bicerin. For those with inquisitive taste buds, Fiat’s newest creation comprises a delightful fusion of coffee, chocolate, and oat milk.

Underneath its captivating exterior, the “Gelateria Edition” retains its original engineering. This translates to an electric motor boasting 117 horsepower (87 kW / 118 PS) and a 42 kWh battery, akin to the high-spec 500e model. However, the additional weight and power requirements associated with the refrigeration units are anticipated to marginally impact the stock model’s WLTP range figure of 260 kilometers (162 miles).
Beyond its whimsical charm, this concept serves as both a marketing spectacle and a strategic response to the United Kingdom’s recent clampdown on diesel-powered ice cream trucks within the “Ultra Low Emission Zone” confines. Presently encompassing London boroughs such as Camden, Greenwich, and Westminster City, these regulations are poised for expansion to 14 more UK cities by 2024. Unlike their diesel counterparts idling to power onboard utilities, electric vehicles silently offer the same services without local emissions, aligning perfectly with emission reduction goals and urban tranquility.
