Fiat has signed an agreement to supply the Governorate of the Vatican City State with 30 fully electric vehicles as part of the Vatican’s efforts to decarbonize its transport fleet under the ‘Ecological Conversion 2030’ programme.
The order includes a combination of Fiat Topolino and Fiat Tris electric vehicles, which will be used for day-to-day operations carried out by employees across Vatican City.
First Vehicles Delivered to Vatican
An initial batch of 20 electric vehicles was officially handed over during a ceremony at the Governorate’s headquarters.
The event was attended by Fiat Chief Executive Officer and Stellantis Global Chief Marketing Officer Olivier François, together with Archbishop Emilio Nappa and lawyer Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi, the two Secretaries General of the Governorate of the Vatican City State.
The remaining vehicles are expected to complete the planned fleet of 30 battery-electric models.
Supporting the Vatican’s Decarbonization Goals
The vehicle deployment forms part of the Vatican’s ‘Ecological Conversion 2030’ strategy, which aims to eliminate emissions from the Governorate’s vehicle fleet by the end of the decade.
The electric vehicles will support a range of internal transport requirements, helping reduce the environmental impact of daily operational activities across the city-state.
Expanding Fiat’s Micromobility Applications
The agreement also highlights the growing role of Fiat’s electric micromobility portfolio beyond private ownership.
While the compact Topolino is designed for urban personal mobility, the three-wheeled Tris has been developed to support light commercial and operational duties.
By combining both models in a single fleet, the Vatican will use the vehicles for a variety of transportation needs, ranging from employee mobility to light-duty operational tasks.
The vehicle handover took place ahead of Fiat’s broader micromobility showcase in Rome, where the automaker presented its expanding range of compact electric vehicles and outlined its future vision for sustainable urban transportation.
