Ferrari has introduced the 849 Testarossa, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) supercar that replaces the SF90 Stradale at the top of the marque’s range. The vehicle was unveiled to international press and clients in Milan and will also be offered in a retractable-top “spider” variant.
The 849 Testarossa combines a mid-rear twin-turbo V8 engine producing 830 horsepower with three electric motors delivering 220 hp, for a total output of 1,050 hp—50 hp more than the SF90 Stradale. Ferrari said the car features on-demand four-wheel drive, torque vectoring, and a revised hybrid system for improved performance and driving comfort. The car’s battery allows up to 25 km of electric-only driving.
The internal combustion engine includes a new, larger turbocharger, upgraded cylinder heads, exhaust manifold, and titanium fasteners. The hybrid system features two front electric motors for torque vectoring and a rear MGU-K motor derived from Formula 1 technology. Extensive weight reduction and chassis optimization result in the best power-to-weight ratio ever for a Ferrari range model.
Aerodynamic improvements include 415 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, an increase of 25 kg over the SF90, enhanced brake cooling, and improved airflow for thermal management. The suspension, ABS Evo braking system, and Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator (FIVE) electronic controls have been revised to optimize handling, acceleration, and braking consistency.
The exterior design is inspired by 1970s sports prototypes and the 1984 Testarossa, featuring sharp lines, twin-tail rear sections, and aerodynamic enhancements. The interior incorporates a central sail motif, F80-inspired gear-change gate, a new steering wheel, and an updated HMI system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MyFerrari Connect. Optional Assetto Fiorano trim includes lightweight carbon-fibre wheels, tubular seats, aerodynamic enhancements, and a semi-active front lifter system.
Ferrari has priced the coupe at 460,000 euros ($540,000) and the spider version at 500,000 euros, with European deliveries expected in the second and third quarters of 2026 and U.S. deliveries following later. Personalisation options include new exterior colors Rosso Fiammante and Giallo Ambra, and interior Alcantara trim in Giallo Siena.
