Geely Auto Group has unveiled the latest addition to its Galaxy lineup: the Galaxy E5, an all-electric compact SUV designed for both domestic and international markets. The model was introduced at a launch event in Guiyang, Guizhou province in southwest China.
Overview and Pricing
The Galaxy E5 starts at RMB 112,800 ($15,750) and is available in five variants with different price points in China: RMB 112,800, RMB 122,800, RMB 128,800, RMB 138,800, and RMB 148,800. Geely is also offering right-hand drive versions to cater to markets outside China.
Dimensions and Design
The compact SUV measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. This size positions the Galaxy E5 as a versatile option for urban and suburban driving.
Performance and Battery Specifications
All five variants of the Galaxy E5 feature the same powertrain: a motor that delivers 160 kW of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
The two lower-priced variants are equipped with a 49.52 kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC range of 440 km. The higher-priced variants come with a 60.22 kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC range of up to 530 km. The battery used in the Galaxy E5 is Geely’s new Aegis Short Blade Battery, which was introduced on June 27. This lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery features an energy density of 192 Wh/kg and a cycle life of up to 3,500 cycles, equivalent to driving 1 million kilometers with minimal impact on range.
Discounts and Competition
Customers who place orders for the Galaxy E5 before October 1 can benefit from a RMB 3,000 discount on all variants. The Galaxy E5’s primary competitor is the BYD Yuan Plus, which is priced between RMB 119,800 and RMB 147,800 and offers range options of 430 km and 510 km CLTC.
Galaxy Lineup and Future Plans
The Galaxy E5 is part of Geely’s new Galaxy lineup launched on February 23, 2023, aimed at mainstream plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle markets. By 2025, Geely plans to introduce a total of seven models in the Galaxy range, including four plug-in hybrids in the L-series and three electric vehicles in the E-series. The Galaxy L7 SUV and L6 sedan, both hybrid models, were launched in 2023, and the Galaxy E8 all-electric sedan debuted on January 5 of this year.
The Galaxy lineup has seen significant growth, with 16,704 vehicles sold in July 2024, marking a 66.08 percent increase year-on-year and a 4.56 percent rise from June.
